Three days after the UEFA Champions League match in which Como 1907 defeated Manchester United in front of their home fans, the gates of the Giuseppe Sinigaglia Stadium open once again to host Matchday 8 of Serie A.
The BiancoBlu can count once again on the support of their fans for the upcoming match against Sassuolo. The Neroverdi are currently 13th in the standings with 8 points after the first 7 matchdays of the season, thanks to wins over Torino and Juventus and draws against Bologna and Milan.
While the Emilian side aims to climb further up the standings, the BiancoBlu will look to build on their momentum following last week’s victories over Fiorentina and Manchester United. The matchup between Cesc Fàbregas’s team and Alberto Aquilani’s side promises to be a hard-fought contest with intriguing tactical themes. Kickoff is scheduled for Saturday, October 24, at 3:00 PM.
The words of Como 1907 head coach Cesc Fàbregas ahead of Como 1907-Sassuolo:
"I think the team is still a work in progress, but I’m sure we’ll get to where we want to be, step by step.
What allows you to achieve your goals over the course of a season is the atmosphere you create, the way the team plays, how it responds in the toughest moments and how it behaves when everything is going well. We’re building a very specific culture and way of working here in Mozzate, day by day, with the aim of becoming a consistent team in everything we do and everything we want to be.
I really like Alberto as a coach, his ideas and his courage. Above all, his teams play football. He has grown tremendously as a coach. Sassuolo are a well-built team with plenty of options and some very good players, including young talents. I enjoy watching them during the season because there’s always something to learn from them."
Sassuolo
Now in its 13th Serie A season out of the last 14, Sassuolo has consistently established itself in the top flight thanks to a winning club culture. Through scouting, developing, and promoting young players—often Italians—the Neroverdi have earned acclaim and success, maintaining a sustainable model despite the turnover of coaches and players over the years.
Historically, Sassuolo has relied on the 4-3-3 formation as its cornerstone, and Aquilani—in his first season with the Neroverdi—also favors this tactical setup, fielding several young, up-and-coming players alongside a few veterans to provide leadership and experience.
Sassuolo’s iconic player is undoubtedly Berardi, the club’s all-time leading scorer with 132 goals in Serie A, who could also become the club’s all-time record appearance holder in the top flight. The Neroverdi’s number 10 plays as a right winger as usual, while on the opposite flank, Laurienté provides dribbling flair and speed. Esposito and Bowie round out the attack, sharing minutes in the center.
Sassuolo’s strength, however, also lies in midfield, where the experienced Matić serves as the team’s anchor and stabilizing force. Alongside him, Bacola, Thorstvedt, and Adzic rotate in midfield; Adzic is the Neroverdi’s leading scorer so far this season with 3 goals. Central defender Odenthal, a former player for Como, has scored 2 goals, as has Van der Brempt. Both started in Sassuolo’s last match, with Ćaleta-Car and Doig rounding out the back four protecting Murić’s goal.
Head-to-head
Historically, Como 1907 and Sassuolo faced off for the first time in league play only last season, with each team claiming one victory. The BiancoBlu secured a 2-0 win on November 28 at the Sinigaglia, thanks to goals by Tasos Douvikas and Alberto Moreno.
However, their very first meeting took place on September 24, 2025, in Coppa Italia, also at the Sinigaglia. In that match, the Lariani won 3-0 courtesy of a brace by Jesus Rodriguez and a goal by Tasos Douvikas.
